NDP applauds Sting for standing with Oshawa’s GM workers

OSHAWA — Andrea Horwath and members of the Ontario NDP caucus are back in Oshawa Thursday, where music legend Sting is performing a free concert in solidarity with the thousands of GM workers fighting to keep GM in Oshawa, and save thousands of good auto jobs. NDP MPPs Jennifer French (Oshawa), Culture critic Jill Andrew (Toronto-St. Paul’s) and Labour critic Jamie West (Sudbury) released the following statement:

“From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank Sting along with the entire cast and crew of The Last Ship, not only for coming to show solidarity with the GM workers and lift the spirits of Oshawa families, but also for standing shoulder to shoulder with all those who say that we refuse to give up on GM jobs in Oshawa.

Oshawa has been a world-class auto-manufacturing city for 100 years, and we can keep it that way. Ontario has everything it takes to be forward-looking and world-leading when it comes to the auto sector, and we can take action now to make sure the cars of the future — including electric and autonomous vehicles — are built right here.

Music has the power to galvanize and energize communities — and we’re so grateful to Sting, Mirvish Productions and The Last Ship cast for bringing that magic to Oshawa to keep spirits up and wills strong.”
