NDP files formal letter of opposition to Orchard Villa's application for new licence and expansion
QUEEN'S PARK — Official Opposition Leader Andrea Horwath and NDP Oshawa MPP Jennifer French have filed aformal letter of oppositionto Orchard Villa’s application for a new 30-year licence and expansion. More than 70 residents died at Orchard Villa during the pandemic. The Canadian Armed Forces eventually entered the home in crisis and described seniors languishing, and dying, in horrible inhumane conditions.
Horwath has called for any long-term care home that catastrophically failed seniors during the pandemic to be denied a licence renewal, and has laid out a plan to move the sector into public and non-profit hands.
