QUEEN'S PARK – Oshawa NDP MPP Jennifer French released the following statement after it was announced today that General Motors and Unifor have hammered out a $1.3 billion deal to bring jobs and vehicle production back to Oshawa. According to today’s announcement, significant investments will be made in bringing truck manufacturing back to the community.

“Oshawa is so glad to know that our story of manufacturing and vehicle production could be getting a next chapter. After the torment of the last two years, the prospect of a deal is a massive relief for workers, families and the community.

I am glad that Unifor and GM were able to hammer out a tentative agreement to build the future here in Oshawa. General Motors has its roots in this town. I am so glad that Oshawa can continue to build GM.

I am proud to have always believed in local autoworkers, and proud to have stood alongside them and their families in the fight to keep these good paying jobs in Oshawa. I will continue to stand with them.

I remember when Doug Ford accused us of having ‘false hope’. I wish this government had stood with us, but maybe now they will see that Oshawa is always worth fighting for.”
